10 YEARS TOGETHER FOR URBAN NATURE
We began writing the first chapter of our journey 10 years ago, driven by the desire to connect with nature, to provide people with access to quality green spaces, and to show our children the natural world in all its fullness and beauty. Thus, in 2014, the Văcărești Natural Park Association (APNV) was founded with the aim of supporting the conservation of urban biodiversity and facilitating the community's access to nature, right in the heart of the city.
In these 10 years of activity, we have written the story of Romania’s first urban natural park, with the support of the community, the authorities, and, of course, our partners. In May 2016, Văcărești Natural Park was declared a protected natural area of the country and the largest green space in the capital, covering 183 hectares, offering nearly one square metre of green space for every city resident.

PETRICANI MEADOW, THE NEW PROTECTED NATURAL AREA
After 10 years of sustained effort, we continue today to promote and protect urban nature, actively engaging in numerous environmental projects with the aim of saving the last urban natural areas in Bucharest – the Dâmbovița Delta, Băneasa Forest, and the chain of lakes along the Colentina River, including the Petricani Meadow, Saulei Valley, and the Reed Beds in Dobroești.
In October 2024, at our initiative, the Petricani Meadow along the Colentina River became, after Văcărești Natural Park, the second natural area in Bucharest to receive protection status.
TOGETHER WE SAVE THE LAST URBAN WILDERNESS AREAS
In the last 30 years, Bucharest has lost hundreds of hectares of green spaces and wetlands, as well as tens of thousands of trees. Our health and that of nature are at risk. Every day, our green spaces are suffocated and swallowed up by new buildings, cars, and waste. Today, Bucharest has nature trapped between concrete.
With your help, we can save the last major urban natural areas in Bucharest: the Dâmbovița Delta, Băneasa Forest, and the chain of lakes along the Colentina River (including the Petricani Meadow, Saulei Valley, and the Reed Beds in Dobroești).
These areas together cover nearly 1,000 hectares. Protecting them would mean an additional 5 square meters of accessible green space for every Bucharest resident. More space for our children's education and play, more nature for everyone, and another lung to help the city breathe.
But for that, we need your help! Thanks to you, we saved and established Văcărești Natural Park. Using the same model, help us conserve the last wild areas of the city!
